        Service Details

Dealing directly with the many different licensing organisations can be time-consuming and expensive.

As a local authority, we can take advantage of economies of scale by bulk buying. This means we can offer you rates for copyright that are considerably lower than you could get on your own.

We also take on the entire administrative burden, leaving you free to concentrate on the more important business of running your school. All your copyright bills will be sent directly to us. Before transferring the charge to you we will check that you have been given the correct cover at the correct price.

We administer the five most commonly needed copyright licenses:

        ERA – Educational Recording Agency

Allows you to record radio and television broadcasts for educational purposes.

        PPL – Phonographic Perfomance Ltd.

Required for any public performance of sound recordings for extra-curricular purposes.

        PRS – Performing Rights Society

Required for any public performance of music for extra-curricular purposes.

PVSL – Public Video Screening License

Allows you to show films for entertainment purposes during and out of school hours.

MPLC – Motion Picture Licensing Co.

An ‘add-on license’ to the PVSL, giving you access to the works of an additional 350+ independent film studios and TV production companies, all with the emphasis on family-friendly and/or educational programming.

The licensing period runs from 1 April 2013 to 31 March 2014.

If your school converts to academy status during this time you will still be covered until your existing licenses expire.

Academies will be charged for this service by invoice. All other arrangements are the same as for maintained schools.
