We will support your academy to implement health and safety legislation and help you promote a positive health and safety culture, as well as keep you up to date with changing and forthcoming legislation

Service Details

We provide:

• advice on health, safety and wellbeing.  This supports and enhances the policy guidance documents and circulars that are issued to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation
• inclusion within the health and safety audit programme, including onsite coaching with the Headteacher and health and safety coordinator to support future action planning
• site visits to provide advice and guidance on:
  - the development of risk assessments
  - incident/accident investigations
  - any other health and safety issues
• remote technical advice on design technology by a DATA registered design and technology health and safety consultant. Site visits are available at an additional cost
• Access to our online incident reporting system and notification of RIDDOR reportable incidents will be undertaken on your behalf

Getting The Most From Your Service

What Your School Needs To Do

You must:

• comply with health and safety legislation
• it is a requirement of the Management of Health and Saftety at Work regulations 1999 that competent health and safety advice is obtained to assist your academy in complying with relevant health and safety legislation.  A competent person is someone who:

- has successfully completed the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) General Certificate (as a minimum)
- is a member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
- has relevant experience in the education sector.
If the competent person is an independent consultant, you must be able to provide evidence that they have professional indemnity insurance and that they have registered with the Occupational Safety Consultants Register (OSCR)

• prepare your own policies detailing the local arrangements in place for managing health and safety
• implement a safety management system (to HSG65 or ISO9000 standard)
• nominate a health and safety co-ordinator
• ensure that academy staff attend health and safety training so that they are aware of current legislation and best practice. For more information please visit our A-Z of Health and Safety.

We have quality assurance processes in place to ensure that our work practices are effective, that professional standards are being met and that we provide a high quality service to schools and academies.

We also have a number of key performance indicators and constantly monitor our service against these to make sure it remains at the required standard and provides you with value for money.

We are always looking for ways we can improve our service. We work with all our staff to ensure that they are appropriately trained and qualified and that we meet their continuing professional development needs.

If your academy is purchasing any Personnel and Training service (PT01, PT03, PT04) and the Health and Safety advisory service (PT02) - you will have access to all Personnel and Training and Health and Safety content on Czone.

If your academy is purchasing one or more Personnel and Training services only - you will have access to all Personnel and Training content on Czone but no Health and Safety content.

If your academy is purchasing the Health and Safety advisory service only - you will have access to all Health and Safety content on Czone but no Personnel and Training content.

If your academy is not purchasing any Personnel and Training or Health and Safety services - you will have no access to the content on Czone relating to these areas.

The access permissions for your academy will be assigned each year based on your purchasing decisions and these will be reviewed annually.
