Cleaning is a basic aspect of running your school or academy, but it can be a challenge to manage successfully.
Our service offers a wide range of technical and legal support from our fully trained and experienced officers. We can give you advice and practical help on all aspects of cleaning, from staff recruitment to meeting your legal obligations.

Service Details
We will provide:
- site visits twice a year to primary and special schools and academies, and every second term to secondary schools and academies
- up to six further visits by your area cleaning officer each academic year
- assessment of how much cleaning your school or academy requires and the budget you should allocate
- a Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) risk assessment manual, providing details of regulations and COSHH data sheets that will be audited by health and safety officers
- support with recruiting and managing caretakers and site managers. This includes preparing job descriptions, giving guidance on selection procedures, interviews, training and induction, and managing their work programme. Please note, this training is separate from the pay-as-you-use training courses that we also offer
- help finding cover when your cleaning staff are absent
- advice on buying materials, equipment and machinery
- guidance on the requirements for floor treatment work, including barrier matting for floor renovation and replacement coverings
- advice on health and safety aspects of cleaning and caretaking
- advice on controlling litter and waste
- special cleaning programmes following work by building contractors
- invitation to the annual caretakers' open day
- updates for the ‘Caretaker’s Handbook’, COSHH manual and new approved green chemicals
- discounted prices on training courses including working at heights, portable appliance testing, legionnaires disease, DIY, power tools, manual handling and COSHH
- free training on floor treatment and cleaning science, how to train and supervise cleaning staff and COSHH and health and safety.
This support will be given through regular visits to your school or academy by the area cleaning officer, as well as contact by email and phone.
